[humorous email I received--I'm not a racist, I'm married to a woman who isn't even a citizen of the USA--But she did come here legally--So I find humor in the following because of the number of people who did not come here legally, whatever nationality they may be]:

Let's say I break into your house...

A lady wrote the best letter in the Editorials in ages!! It explains
things better than all the baloney you hear on TV.

Recently large demonstrations have taken place across the country
protesting the fact that Congress is finally addressing the issue of
illegal immigration. Certain people are angry that the US might protect
its own borders, might make it harder to sneak into this country and,
once here, to stay indefinitely. Let me see if I correctly understand
the thinking behind these protests:

Let's say I break into your house. Let's say that when you discover me
in your house, you insist that I leave. But I say, "I've made all the
beds and washed the dishes and did the laundry and swept the floors;
I've done all the things you don't like to do. I'm hard-working and
honest (except for when I broke into your house)".

According to the protesters, not only must you let me stay, you must
add me to your family's insurance plan, educate my kids, and provide
other benefits to me and to my family (my husband will do your yard work
because he too is hard working and honest, except for that breaking in
part). If you try to call the police or force me out, I will call my
friends who will picket your house carrying signs that proclaim my right
to be there.

It's only fair, after all, because you have a nicer house than I do,
and I'm just trying to better myself. I'm hard-working and honest, um,
except for well, you know.

And what a deal it is for me!! I live in your house, contributing only
a fraction of the cost of my keep, and there is nothing you can do about
it without being accused of selfishness, prejudice and being an
anti-housebreaker. Oh yeah, and I want you to learn my language so you
can communicate with me.

Why can't people see how ridiculous this is?! Only in America....if you
agree, {post this on your blog}. Share it if you see the value of it as a
good smile. If not blow it off along with your future Social Security
funds.

All of this is fine and good with the exception that it oversimplifies the problem by a considerable margin.

"Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me." [emphasis added]

The sad fact is that Americans should *want* to do all of these things for the illegal immigrants. Not because they are being forced to, but because it is the right thing to do.

People throw around the nifty little expression WWJD all the time, seemingly without ever stopping to truly think about its meaning. Would Christ have turned away someone who broke into his house and then begged for help? I know in my heart the answer to that question. Honestly, why don't you?

The pure love of Christ aside, we have a completely moral obligation to help our fellow man because it is right, and it is good, and it is what should be done.

Honestly, how many of the immigrants of the past were legally brought into America? The romantic images of Ellis island are all fine and good, but the truth of the matter is that America was built upon the concept of the "melting pot" where people from all over the world came here to create a better place.

They came here for several centuries for the same reasons – freedom and hope -- and then a Frenchman created a statue that embodied their hopes and dreams. And it embodied America's promise as well. "Give us your poor, your tired, your huddled masses longing to be free..."
- THE STATUE OF LIBERTY

To be blunt, any other promise, including one of "no vacancy" is not American or Christian. It is an attitude for which people should be ashamed.

Windows Live Messenger: Help friends and family secure their computers without leaving your desk a cool new feature of Windows Live Messenger. The only drawback, is in order to use this tool to help someone else, they will most likely have to download the new version of WLM.
