Novell beats Google

Novell beats Google in getting out its enterprise collaboration software. Google Wave still hasn't been released, but Novell Teaming and Conferencing, version 2.0, is already out. I've had a chance to test this software, and it really makes it feel like team-members from all over the world are working on the same project, Novell T&C includes different modules for different uses, there are files, blogs, guestbooks, discussions, polls, the list goes on. My favorite features are the audio conferencing features (I've only used conferencing a small bit, but it saves my department a lot of money, rather than using a pay-service like MCI or Verizon). I'm very impressed with the features, and I think you should check out the demo

Hate to say it, but Microsoft beat Novell to market with this type of technology. Office, SharePoint, and Live Meeting can do everything described in the demo. It can all be done in software, but it gets even sweeter when you add hardware like the Polycom CX700 IP phone that's sitting on my desk or the CX5000 that's in a lot of the conference rooms.

I admit that the Novell solution looks really good. But, Microsoft's products are worth bragging about, too. :-)

Then we can both brag about beating Google :) I may not be impressed when Microsoft beats Novell, but when ANYONE beats Google, that is a surprising thing. Now if either Novell OR Microsoft was giving away their teaming-type software then I'd be more impressed :) (because I'm certain that there will be a 'free' version of Google wave, I'm signed up for the "beta" but still no word, and I've seen the demos, and I want it NOW!!) Anyway (I should watch your demos), but before watching them, I ask: Are they open platform (ie can run on Windows, Linux (SUSE or Red Hat), Mac, and other?), are they browser independant: Chrome, FireFox, IE, Safari? --If so, then I applaud Microsoft for being friends with people that have other friends than JUST Microsoft ;) Good thing we're still friends :) If only we had patented the "Solid State Music player" back in 1991... GRR!!
Yeah, Google probably will make it free. And, no, Microsoft's stuff isn't open platform, but it is browser independent.

If only we had the funds to file a patent application back in 1991!
